A camp with Sodrujestvo
ABOUT US
SODRUJESTVO VOLUNTEERS
Every year, Sodrujestvo organizes 2 intercultural summer camps in Cheboxary for kids. In the camps Russian and foreign volunteers work as counselors and organize cultural and educational activities for the participants. The idea of the camps is as follows:
- intercultural exchange
- educating kids and students interested in other cultures, tolerant to other nationalities, religions, races
- learning foreign languages
- educating kids and students to share the values of “Sodrujestvo”, of international voluntary movement and ethical principles: to be willing to help the local community acting out of self-initiative, to solve conflicts without violence, to respect human rights, to promote solidarity between human beings at all levels, to respect the environment, to be open and honest, to be active and willing to improve the social, cultural and economic structures of the local community, to be willing to work in teams and cooperate with each other
- educating kids to be leaders with active life position
Because our philosophy is “deeds not words” we don’t lecture the kids, but help them to create their own presentations about actual topics like ecology, water resources, addiction, superstitions, influence of mass media, consumption, racism, etc.
Meeting each other in our camps helps us to learn the languages of other countries: foreigners can teach their native language and get the opportunity to learn some Russian.
Participants get basic knowledge of a language in a way of playing games, singing songs or improve their skills through communication and discussions. This way we learn the living language of every day.
Of course in our camps there is also time for sports (the camp is located on the Volga bank), out door activities, strategic games, all kinds of shows and handcrafts.
