«We are different, but we are together»

Project:

This camp for Russian kids takes place every year on the bank of river Volga (about 20 kilometers away from the city of Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvash republic). Foreign volunteers work together with Russian volunteers as counselors and organize cultural and educational activities for the participants (local school kids – aged 8-15).

The idea of the camps is as follows:

Work:

The work is done 8 hours a day, one day off per week, for the days off sightseeing excursions are planned.

Accommodation and food:

In the camp for children “Kuvshinka”, in wooden houses; counselors live together in male, female, mixed rooms. Shower and Russian sauna are available all the time. No sleeping bags are needed, food is provided in the local camp cafeteria.

Study: Volunteers get knowledge and skills of organizing educational and intercultural activities for kids, teaching kids languages, volunteers will get the basic knowledge of the Russian language and the Russian culture, will get to know Russian people and Russian hospitality. As the workcamp is located in Chuvashia – a small local ethnicity to the east from Moscow – the volunteers will get the chance to learn the culture of this local ethnicity, its’ history and difference from the Russian Culture. Volunteers will get a perfect experience of interacting with  different people with different backgrounds and working in a multicultural team creating excellent lifetime workshops for kids and for each other.

Location: The workcamp is situated in Russia, Cheboksary. The volunteers will need to fly (or arrive with any other transport: train, bus etc.) to Moscow and take a train from Moscow to Cheboksary. In Cheboksary the volunteers will be met by the Russian volunteers and move altogether to the workcamp.

Languages: The working language of the project is English, but we welcome all other languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, Esperanto etc.

Extra information: The volunteers are expected to have some experience of working with kids and organizing activities, intercultural experience is very welcome. We especially welcome those who can swim as this season is normally hot here and we swim a lot with the kids and the assistance of volunteers is needed for watching the kids and swimming with them.

Motivation letter is required.

Extra possibility of learning Russian:

If you feel like you would be interested in learning some Russian before you start the camp, you can come to the project several days before the start of the camp. Our partner – NGO “Language for success” – organizes high quality intensive Russian language course for our volunteers. This will also give you a chance to get to know better the culture of the local community.

The price of individual language course: 50 Euros a day including 4 hours of studies and accommodation in a hostel or host family.

The 15th Language festival in Cheboksary started at October,15.  8 volunteers from different countries came to Sodrujestvo to present their languages. From the 15th to the 22th of October, during so called «language caravan», they visited with the presentations a lot of schools in Cheboksary and some other towns and villages in Chuvash Republic. Schoolchildren and teachers were very hospitable and in turn also prepared a performance of Сhuvash (and even somewhere of Tatar) culture. 23 and 24 of October the Festival itself took place in Chuvash State Pedagogical University. A lot of students, schoolkids and just people interested in different cultures, visited the Festival.

Приглашаем вас принять участие в Международном лагере для школьников «Содружество», который состоится в Чебоксарах, на базе дома отдыха «Кувшинский» этим летом.
Вот уже 7 лет при поддержке Министерства Образования и молодежной политики Чувашской Республики организацией лагеря занимается международный волонтерский центр «Содружество» (Чебоксары, Россия) – это некоммерческая организация, объединяющая молодых людей – волонтеров со всего мира.
Участники лагеря – русские школьники в возрасте от 9 до 16 лет.
Вожатые в лагере – русские и иностранные студенты и преподаватели.

IE-VSI 1.01 Mosney (Co. Meath)

Mosney is a former holiday resort, which now provides housing for almost 700 residents from 50 different countries seeking asylum in Ireland. There are approximately 100 children and young people aged 6 / 16yrs resident in Mosney, volunteers are needed to help run activities for some of these children during the Easter holidays.
Work: Organising and running activities: sports, arts and crafts, drama etc. and supervising the children .
Qualifications: Volunteers should have experience of working with children, preferably on summer camps. Skills in arts/ crafts, drama and/or sports are very welcome but not essential.

Accommodation: Shared, in former holiday chalets on the site. Meals provided.
Mosney is approximately 48 km north of Dublin in Co. Meath. The centre is quite isolated, there is a regular bus service to Drogheda, the nearest large town, which takes about 15 minutes. The centre is located next to a beach; there is a small supermarket on the site.

Child protection procedures will be applied, info from VSI. Please send application form as soon as possible, police checks and references will be requested by VSI when application forms received.
